On March 30, 2023, the first China Standardization Conference (2023) was held in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. At the opening ceremony of the conference, the "2022 China Standards Innovation Contribution Award" was announced. Industrial wastewater classification, the international standard ISO 22447:2019, developed by Prof. Hongqiang Ren, Dean of School of Environment, Nanjing University and Director of Yixing Environmental Research Institute of Nanjing University, won the second prize of the 2022 China Standards Innovation Contribution Award (Standard Project Award).
ISO 22447:2019 is the first international basic standard in the field of industrial wastewater treatment. It stipulates the principles of classification, naming methods and coding composition of industrial wastewater. It is the first international standard in terms of the construction framework of classification system, water quality index composition, information load and coding method. It provides the standard guidance for the policy/standard establishment, strategic consultation, process design, technical equipment research and development, project construction, production and operation of the global industrial wastewater treatment and reuse industry chain, which effectively improves the international competitiveness of Chinese industrial wastewater treatment industry.
This year's "China Standards Innovation Contribution Award" is the first nomination after the implementation of the National Standardization Development Program. All sectors of society actively participated in the selection, with a total of more than 400 projects participating. According to the regulations of "China Standard Innovation Contribution Award Management Measures", 60 standard project awards were selected. At the same time, the conference also commended Professor Jinju Geng, Vice President of Yixing Institute of Environmental Protection, Nanjing University, for her outstanding contribution to the revision of ISO/TC282/SC4 international standard in the field of water reuse, and awarded her the "ISO Outstanding Contribution Award" certificate of honor.
